Couples & Family Therapy in Morton, Illinois

When the same conflict keeps circling back, or when someone you love is hurting and you don't know how to reach them, being in the room together can feel harder than staying quiet. If that's where you are with your partner or your family, you're looking at the right kind of help. Stride Mental Health offers couples & family therapy for people ready to change how they connect.

What this work actually is

Couples and family therapy brings the people in a relationship into the same conversation, with a therapist guiding it. Instead of two or three people talking past each other, there's structure. Each person gets heard, and the therapist helps name the pattern that keeps everyone stuck.

The goal is practical. You come in with something you want to shift, whether that's constant fighting, distance that's grown over years, or a family change no one has adjusted to yet. Together you work toward what you actually want, at a pace that fits your relationship.

Partners who feel like they keep having the same argument often benefit from couples therapy that focuses on the pattern underneath the conflict rather than who is right. When tension involves parents, teens, or extended relatives, family therapy gives everyone a structured space to be heard and rebuild trust.

Who provides it

Stride's therapists are licensed clinicians with years of experience across schools, hospitals, community mental health, and private practice.

Allison Schieferle Uhlenbrock, MA, NCC, LCPC, has practiced since 2014 in clinical, school, and private settings, including the Children's Hospital of Illinois and Knox College. She has advanced training in childhood and adolescent anxiety, grief and loss, DBT, and EMDR.

Marie Mullins, LCPC, has helped clients heal since 2012, most recently at a trauma recovery center. She is trained in EMDR and Brainspotting and works often with survivors of trauma, chronic illness, and major life change.

Hannah Courtney, LCPC, draws from somatic therapy, Internal Family Systems, and other integrative approaches. As a member of the LGBTQI+ and neurodivergent community, she brings a strongly affirming approach to care.

Who it helps

This work supports partners at every stage, from couples deciding whether to stay together to those simply worn down by miscommunication. Some couples come in specifically to rebuild how they talk to each other after years of misunderstandings and shut-down conversations.

Grief appears here not only after a death, but also following events like the end of a relationship or job loss.

Sessions are available in person at our office in Morton, Illinois, and virtually anywhere in Illinois, as well as in Tennessee.
