Group Therapy & Support Groups in Morton, Illinois
Carrying something heavy gets harder when it feels like no one around you gets it. Sitting in a room with people who do understand can loosen that grip. That is the work behind group therapy and support groups in Morton, Illinois at Stride Mental Health.
A support group brings together people facing a shared experience, guided by a licensed therapist. You listen, you share when you are ready, and you hear how others are managing the same thing. Groups run for 60 minutes, with virtual options available across Illinois and Tennessee.
What a group actually offers
Individual therapy gives you one relationship to work in. A group gives you several. You get honest reflections from people who are living something close to your own situation, plus the steadiness of a therapist keeping the space safe and focused.
Some people join a group alongside individual sessions. Others start with a group because it feels like a smaller first step. Both are fine. The goal is to help you move closer to the life you want, at the pace that works for you.
Who leads the groups
Stride's groups are run by licensed clinicians, not peer volunteers. That matters when conversations get raw.
Allison Schieferle Uhlenbrock, MA, NCC, LCPC, has practiced since 2014 in clinical, school, and private settings, including the Children's Hospital of Illinois and Knox College. She has advanced training in childhood and adolescent anxiety, grief and loss, DBT, and EMDR.
Marie Mullins, LCPC, has helped clients heal since 2012, most recently at a trauma recovery center. She is trained in EMDR and Brainspotting and works often with survivors of trauma, chronic illness, and major life change.
Hannah Courtney, LCPC, draws from somatic therapy, Internal Family Systems, and other integrative approaches. As a member of the LGBTQI+ and neurodivergent community, she brings a strongly affirming approach to care.
Who our groups help
Grief is a common reason people reach out, and it does not only follow a death. A relationship ending, a job loss, a change in health or ability, and infertility all carry real loss.
Our current and planned groups include a grief support group for parents or families who have lost a child. People worn down by constant worry often find footing in our anxiety support group, where the pressure to explain yourself falls away. We also run a group for parents of adult children navigating a mental health diagnosis, a space to trade practical support and honest frustration.
If a group is not the right fit, we will say so and help you find what is. Groups here do not cover disordered eating or substance use.
